- 500 Legato® blocks delivered within days formed a temporary flood defence wall that kept homes and infrastructure dry during a subsequent storm
With an increase in flooding events throughout the UK, the Environment Agency (EA) has been under pressure to keep people, homes and infrastructure safe. So when they were called upon to provide a temporary flood defence wall, it was Elite Precast Concrete they called.
The project in North Lincolnshire required 500 high-quality, high-strength blocks without any recycled materials within the manufacturing process, to be delivered within days of ordering.
Owen Batham, Elite Precast's Sales and Marketing Director, explains "we understand that when customers need concrete blocks that they often expect them to be delivered within days, which is why we always keep interlocking blocks in stock."
Owen added, "as soon as the Environment Agency placed the order, we organised transport and deliveries to the EA site. The whole delivery and off-loading process is made easy and safe due to the fact that each block has its own cast-in lifting pin anchor, making off-loading simple for a suitable machine with a chain and hook."
Once all 500 Legato® blocks were delivered, they were placed in strategic locations designed to prevent flood water inundating local homes and businesses, keeping both people and livelihoods safe.
Within a few days of installation, the wall was put to the test with a storm that battered the local area. Homes and infrastructure stayed dry and protected, with the walls proven to be successful.
